How to Choose a Cosmetic Practitioner in Australia

Four things to check before you book.

Cosmetic procedures are medical procedures, so it's worth checking your practitioner as carefully as you would any other health professional.

    Check their registration

Every registered health practitioner in Australia, including doctors and nurses, is listed on the public Ahpra register. You can search by name to confirm their registration is current and see whether any conditions apply.

    Ask about the consultation

A good consultation gives you time. The practitioner should explain the risks, recovery and costs clearly and let you decide without pressure, so be wary of anyone pushing you to book on the day.

    Ask who treats you

Find out who will assess you, who will carry out any treatment and who will see you at follow-up. It helps if it's the same person.

    Check their safety standards

Ask how they handle consent, sterile technique and complications. Prices, packages and online reviews tell you little about any of these.

This guide is general information, not medical advice.

    Book a free consultation

Talk through what you'd like, the cost and whether a home or clinic visit suits you. There's no obligation to go ahead.
